Aluminized steel sheets have developed rapidly since the last century. In 1939-1940, the American Amco Company introduced aluminum-plated steel sheets using the Sendzimir method. However, for over 50 years, their widespread use was limited due to poor processing performance. The quick formation of Fe-Al metal compounds made the alloy hard and brittle, reducing its plastic formability. In 1999, ArcelorMittal improved this by adding silicon to the coating, enhancing processing performance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance.

With the expansion of China’s automobile market, the demand for aluminized steel sheets increased rapidly, exceeding 3 million tons in 2018. As the industry shifted toward lightweight and electric vehicles, the need for these steel sheets continued to grow. Notably, the sales of domestic car brands and the use of hot-formed steel have also risen significantly.

Composition and Properties

Aluminized steel sheets are coated with an alloy containing 90% aluminum and 10% silicon. This composition enhances corrosion resistance and processing performance. The thickness of these sheets ranges from 0.4mm to 3.0mm, while the coating weight varies from 80g to 300g, allowing flexibility in automotive applications.
