Introduction

Coated steel sheets, including aluminized sheets, are widely used for their corrosion resistance and durability. These sheets are coated with pure aluminum or aluminum alloy containing 5-10% silicon, providing excellent protection against gases like SO₂, H₂S, and NO₂. They also offer superior oxidation resistance and heat reflectivity, making them ideal for automotive exhaust systems, heating furnaces, and construction materials. Production Methods

Hot-Dip Aluminized Sheet Plating

Hot-dip aluminized sheet plating, first introduced in the U.S. in 1930, follows a process similar to the Sendzimir hot-dip galvanizing method. Since aluminum has a high melting point and reacts easily with iron, the tank temperature is maintained at 670-710°C to prevent slag formation. To enhance plastic processing, 5-10% silicon is added, reducing the alloy layer’s thickness. Two types of coated steel sheets, Type I and Type II, are produced, typically with a coating weight of 70-150 g/m².

Electrophoretic Aluminized Sheet Plating

Developed in the UK in 1962, this method applies aluminum powder to the steel sheet surface using electrophoresis, followed by rolling and sintering to form a non-porous aluminum layer. This process improves formability. While hot-dip aluminized sheets remain cost-effective, research in the U.S. has led to the development of Al-Zn-Si and Al-Ti alloy-coated steel sheets, offering better corrosion and heat resistance.

Lead-Tin Alloy-Coated Steel Sheets

Lead-tin alloy-coated sheets, such as terne-coated sheets, offer excellent corrosion resistance and lubricity. They are commonly used in automotive fuel tanks and TV chassis. These sheets are manufactured through hot-dip or electroplating methods, with different alloy layer thickness options.

Organic Coated Steel Sheets

Organic coated steel sheets feature a protective organic layer or plastic film, improving durability and appearance. These are widely used in construction materials and industrial applications. The main production methods include roller coating and lamination.
