Description

ASTM A463 is the standard specification for aluminized steel sheet coated by either Type 1 (Al-Si alloy) or Type 2 (pure aluminum coating). This material is widely used in high-temperature, corrosion-resistant, and heat-reflective applications due to its unique metallurgical bond between the steel substrate and aluminum coating.

1. Composition of ASTM A463 Aluminized Steel

Type 1 Coating (Al-Si Alloy, Code T1)

Type 1 uses an aluminum-silicon alloy containing approximately 5%–11% silicon, designed to provide excellent heat resistance and oxidation resistance.

Type 2 Coating (Pure Aluminum, Code T2)

Type 2 uses commercial-purity aluminum coating, offering high corrosion resistance, especially in atmospheric environments.

Typical Chemical Composition of Base Steel

(Values vary slightly based on grade and manufacturer)

ElementTypical Range (%)
Carbon (C)≤ 0.15
Manganese (Mn)0.30 – 0.60
Phosphorus (P)≤ 0.035
Sulfur (S)≤ 0.035
Aluminum Coating90–95% Al (T1), ~100% Al (T2)
Silicon (Si)5–11% (T1 only)

2. Key Mechanical and Performance Properties

ASTM A463 aluminized steel is chosen for its balance of thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and formability.

Mechanical Properties Overview
