What is Galvanized Steel?

Galvanized Steel is a corrosion-resistant material made from cold-rolled steel coated with a layer containing 55% aluminum, 43.3% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. This galvanized steel coating enhances durability, making it ideal for outdoor roofs, siding, chimney breasts, and color-coated steel substrates.

Production Process

The production of galvanized steel sheets and coils follows a hot-dip continuous coating process, similar to traditional galvanized steel. However, this coating provides 2-5 times better corrosion resistance. It also withstands temperatures above 300°C, offering a smooth surface with a decorative spangle pattern. Despite these benefits, its forming and welding properties are slightly weaker.

Applications of Galvanized Steel

Construction

  • Roofs and walls for buildings
  • Garage doors, shutters, grilles, ventilation ducts
  • Mobile cabins

Automotive Industry

  • Mufflers, exhaust pipes, fuel tanks
  • Wiper accessories, truck boxes

Household Appliances

  • Refrigerator back panels, gas stoves, air conditioners
  • Microwave ovens, LCD screen frames, LED backlights
  • Electrical cabinets

Agricultural Uses

  • Pig and chicken houses
  • Granaries, greenhouse pipes

Other Uses

  • Heat shields, heat exchangers, dryers, water heaters
  • Vending machines
  • Galvanized Steel Pipe for water and structural applications

Guide to Using Galvanized Steel-Galvanized Steel Supplier

  1. Use galvanized steel sheets instead of GL steel in alkaline environments.
  2. Install at a slight slope for proper drainage to prevent corrosion.
  3. Avoid direct contact with wet cement, wood, lead, copper, or graphite.
  4. Minimize cutting on-site to protect the coating.
  5. Do not use alcohol-based solvents for cleaning.

Key Benefits

1. Superior Corrosion Resistance

The aluminum in the coating forms a protective oxide layer, preventing further corrosion even if the zinc wears off.

2. Excellent Heat Resistance

With twice the heat reflectivity of traditional galvanized steel, it withstands high temperatures above 300°C. This makes it suitable for chimney pipes, ovens, and lampshades.

3. Strong Adhesion

Galvanized steel bonds well with paint, allowing for direct painting without pre-treatment.

4. Attractive Appearance

Its smooth, bright surface is more visually appealing than traditional galvanized steel, making it suitable for exposed applications like roofing.
