Welding Method for Aluminized Steel Plate

Aluminized steel plate is produced by hot-dipping a cold-rolled steel plate in an aluminum-silicon alloy coating. As an aluminized steel supplier, we offer a range of aluminized steel products, including aluminized steel strips. While it is similar to traditional coated steel plates in terms of welding ease, the welding conditions differ.

Welding Conditions for Aluminized Steel Plate

Aluminized steel plates are easy to weld due to the soft aluminum, which helps address conductivity issues. However, aluminum has lower thermal conductivity than steel. The coating has a higher melting point, which keeps the connection area small and requires less current for welding. This results in fewer harmful pollutants during welding, contributing to a cleaner environment.

Welding Process

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) or MIG “short arc” welding is commonly used, typically with an Ar-containing gas to improve arc stability. This method reduces welding spatter, producing smoother welds. The welding voltage for MIG or MIG “short arc” is typically low, between 15 and 24V, and titanium electrodes are used for conventional welding.

Spot Welding and High-Frequency Welding

Spot welding requires higher current and a more precise welding process compared to cold-rolled steel. The electrode must be adjusted regularly to prevent surface deformation. Proper nozzle positioning and effective water cooling are crucial for extending electrode life. A minimum water flow rate of 7 liters per minute with a maximum temperature of 25°C is recommended. Given the excellent conductivity of aluminized steel, higher welding current is required, and a spherical electrode made of hard copper alloy should be used.

Reference for Welding Conditions

Here are typical welding conditions for aluminized steel spot welding (commercial grade with a coating of 40g/m² on both sides). Adjustments should be made based on specific working conditions.
